Write short notes on four food nutrients of livestock under the following heading; (a) composition (b) sources (c) functions

1. CARBOHYDRATE.
Composition: it contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen
Sources: maize, guinea corn, cassava, grass.
Functions: it supplies energy for animals

2. PROTEIN.
Composition: protein contains nitrogen, oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, sulphur, phosphorous
Sources: fish meal, groundnut cake, soya bean meal, legumes.
Functions: replacement of worn-out tissues, for growth, production of egg, milk, etc.
3. FATS AND OILS.
Composition: it contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen
Sources: oil seeds e.g groundnut cake, palm kernel, coconut cake etc.
Functions: it supplies energy, conserves body heat and carrier of fat soluble vitamins.
4. MINERAL.
Composition: types include; sodium, nitrogen, sulphur, boron, copper, manganese, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, etc.
Sources: bone meal, oyster shell, limestone, salt licks, etc.
Functions: it helps in the formation and development of bone, teeth and egg shell, constituent of blood, helps in osmotic balance of the body.
