-In digestion mechanical digestion begins in the mouth by chewing action of the teeth
-Chemical digestion also starts in the mouth by action of salivary amylase (ptyalin) which helps in the breakdown of the starch molecules into maltose
-In the small intestine, pancreatic amylase converts all starch (amylase) to maltose
-The intestinal juice contains the following enzymes that complete the digestion of carbohydrates.
*Sucrase converts  sucrose to glucose and fructose
*Maltase converts maltose to glucose
*Lactase converts lactose to glucose and galactose
-Therefore, the end product of the digestion of carbohydrate is glucose. Which is absorbed in the small intestine and passed to blood, utilized and provides energy needed for the body.
