LIFE CYCLE OF A TOAD: describe the life cycle of an amphibian

-The eggs are laid and are surrounded in strings of jelly
-The eggs are fertilized as the egg releases it sperm on them resulting in external fertilization
-The fertilized egg undergo mitosis to form embryo
-The embryo then develops to form young tadpole
-At this stage it has no mouth;  but attaches itself to water weed by  a sticky substance secreted by a V-shaped cement gland underneath the head, this stage is called the young tadpole stage
-The young tadpole then forms a definite head, body and a tail, it also develops external gills on either side of the head for respiration
It also develops horny jaws which are used to feed on water weed, this is the external gill stage
-About 6-10 days after hatching, the developed operculum, leaving an opening called sprout on the left side for water to flow through the gill chamber, this called the internal gill stage
-The limb stage follows as the tadpole starts to develops the fore limb through the opercular opening
-While the internal gills degenerates
-The horny jaws are replaced with mouth and eyes becomes prominent and big
-The tadpole changes into a small toad by reabsorbing the tail, it comes out of water to land where it grows to a full adult load, the is called the young toad stage
