Deforestation: what is deforestation?

Deforestation is the indiscriminate removal of vegetation cover in an environment
– no replacement is carried out
– leads to environmental degradation
– exposes topsoil to extremes of weather
– also predisposes soil to erosion
– accelerate loss of soil nutrients mineral, organic matter
– occur at extremely high rates in most tropical forests
– due to increased human pressure on forests resources
– as a result of construction/expansion of infrastructure such as houses, hospitals, schools, and roads.
