Discuss the main criticisms against the Nigerian Civil service

CRITICISMS AGAINST THE NIGERIAN
CIVIL SERVICE
.

1.    BUREAUCRACY
OR RED TAPISM:
This refers to
excessive use of formalities in the Civil service which militates against its efficiency.
2.    POLITICAL INTERFEFIENCE:
Government of the day does not give the civil
service free hand to run its affairs and sometimes, non
qualified persons in the name of politicians are put or appointed in the civil service.
3.   POOR CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
The Civil Servants do not earn good
salaries and they lacx ‘ many motivational
incentives that will make them to work harder
and attract highly qualified personnel to the civil ser
4.   POLITICAL
INSTABILITY:
Frequent change of government leads to
constant chanc policies and top officials of the civil service such as ministers, commissioners etc
5.    POOR ATTITUDE TO WORK:-
Civil servants
regard their jobs as government work that not   require
any form of seriousness.
6.    OVER STAFFING:
The Civil service
is over staffed with dead woods which to laxity and idleness thereby making gossip the
stock in trade of
female civil servants.
7.   BRIBERY
AND CORRUPTION:
Most Civil Servants seek undue
gratifications for any work done. Not only that, Kick backs and corruption are
canker worms that have eaten deep in the
service.
8.   TRIBALISM,
NEPOTISM AND FAVOURITISM
These often lead to the appointment of
unqualified person-into the service.
9.   OVER- DUPLICATION OF
FUNCTIONS
:-
Functions exercised in the civil service
are over duplicate: resulting in redundancy
and idleness. This leads to waste manpower
and resources.

10.  THE UNFRIENDLINESS OF CIVIL SERVANTS:- Many civil servants presents bossy
posture or attitude to  members of the public and sometimes
are impatient to list to outsiders who come to make
complain.
