What is non-Alignment? Examine the advantages of the policy

Non-alignment is a
policy of non-commitment of a nation to either
the west or the east on any international issue. It is a foreign policy orientation which allows nations
to discuss and assess international issues objectively regardless of
whether the west or the east has an interest
at stake.

ADVANTAGES OF
NON-ALIGNMENT

WORLD ECONOMIC ORDER:–

The non-alignment has
contributed greatly in the reordering of the world economic order in respect of the New
international Economic
Order.

STOOD AGAINST COLONIALISM:–

Since its formation, the
organisation has spearheaded the anti-colonial and anti-imperiaiist drive which has
contributed to the
independence of many countries in the world.

OPPOSITION TO POLICIES
OF IMF:-The
non-alignment has been opposing economic policies of the international monetary
fund and its operations in developing
countries. Today, many African countries are puppets
of IMF.

DIVISION OF THE WORLD:-

The NAM has contributed
greatly in restructuring of the basic aspect of the world power and a re-adjustment of relations
between the developed and the developing nations.

DISARMAMENT:–

It has contributed
immensely in the area of promoting world peace through its efforts to stop the
arm race between the super powers
and resolution of disputes and co-existence. 

SUPPORT SANCTIONS:-

Non – adjustment majority
membership has helped in reducing the
over riding influence of either the US or USSR in world affairs. It has forced them to cast
embrassing votes on such issues as sanctions against South Africa and explusion
of Israel from the United Nations.

BARGAINING POWER:-

The NAM serves as a forum
for enhancing the bargaining. power of it’s members at the United Nations.

GROWTH IN MEMBERSHIP:–

The rapid growth of its
membership is an indication of the progressive
improvement and impact of NAM in international Politices.

CO –
OPERATION WITH U.N. O:–

The non – alignment is
working and cooperating with United Nations in achieving world peace and
security.

The NAM influenced the formation of organization of African Unity in 1963 with membership committed to
non aligned policy under the organisation’s
charter.
