Explain briefly the meaning of deforestation and its significance

Simply put, deforestation is the uncontrolled removal of trees and other vegetation cover from natural forest ecosystem due to activities of man such as logging, bush burning, clearing of farmland, construction, etc.
-This results in imbalance of natural forest ecosystem,
-Loss of valuable habitats for wildlife,
-Loss of plant species of medicinal and commercial value,
-Exposure of top soil thus making it prone to soil erosion,
-Erosion leads to loss of agricultural land.
