– consist of rhizome, roots and leaves (fronds)
– mostly herbs or trees
– stem has simple vascular structures
– generally, one type of sporangium is produced
– mostly homosporous
– sporangia are borne on leaves
– no cones, motile antherozoids
– considered to be more advanced than bryophytes
– but less advanced than gymnosperms
– e.g the ferns
