Differentiate between constitution and constitutionalism

Constitution can be
defined as a series of laws, rules and principles dealing with how a state will be governed
According
to Austin RANNEY, a constitution is the whole body of fundamental rules,
written or unwritten, legal and extral-legal according to which a particular
government operates.
While
Constitutionalism is
a way of ensuring that the Executive arm of government does not act beyond its powers in
relation to the citizens
or the other two arms of government i.e Legislature and Judiciary i.e it
means checking the tyrannism and autocracy of the executive arm of
government.

Put in another way it means that the
power of government should be defined and
limited by the dictates of the constitution. The actions and activities
of government and its officials should be in line
with the provisions of the constitution.
