The socio-economic problems that followed world war II favoured the
formation of political parties. The climate created by the war encouraged the formation of a nationwide
political party like N. C. N. C. on August 26, 1944 by Late Herbert Macauley and Dr Azikiwe.
THE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE N. C. N. C.
WERE:
- To
arouse mass interest and obtain overwhelming National support for political
reforms. - To
extend democratic principles and to advance the interest of the people of
Nigeria and Cameroons under the British mandate. - To adopt suitable means for the purpose of imparting political education
to the people of Nigeria in order to accelerate the granting of self government for
Nigeria. - To afford the members
the advantages of the medium of expression in order to secure political
freedom, economic, security, social equality
and religious toleration.
